How Karate Can Help Students With ADHD

By October 12, 2015No Comments

Students With ADHDDid you know that athletic activities such as karate can do more than just keep kids in shape?

Martial arts classes can also be highly therapeutic for students diagnosed with ADHD/ADD.

At Action Karate Plymouth Meeting, our job is to look beyond a student’s diagnosis and find ways to motivate them while playing up their strengths.

Over our 15 years in business, we’ve seen that, with direction, students with ADHD or ADD can achieve exceptional results!

We train our instructors to incorporate visual, auditory, and kinesthetic cues into all instruction, and keep all directions and demonstrations short.

When a student is distracted, instructors redirect their attention by spotlighting them and asking them to perform a quick stance or kick. The rapid pace of the classes and the moves practiced keep students alert and focused.

Studies show that complex physical activity, like martial arts, strengthens neural networks in the brain, and enables ADD/ADHD children to practice self-control. The complex series of skill sets and movements helps them develop coordination while building strength and confidence.

If you are looking for a healthy, positive outlet for your child to release excess energy, maintain their physical health, and improve on a wide variety of skill sets, then Action Karate Plymouth is the place to be!
